Sir,
It is heartening to read that the Ministry of External Affairs and the Department of Posts have decided to utilize the Head Post Offices (HPO) in various states as Post Office Passport Seva Kendras for delivering passport related services to the citizens and that Government of India has approved Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) for Udhampur and Leh, as a step to augment the passport services across the country(DE,Feb 21, 2017).
Passport is an important document and there is no doubt that as a result of globalisation and craze for working in Multinational Companies across the globe, demand for passport services has increased manifold but the youth, especially those living in mountainous and farflung areas have to travel long distances both on foot and by vehicles to Jammu/Srinagar to register themselves for obtaining their passports. Now that the facility will be available at Head Post Office, Udhampur and Leh, it will help a lot in providing relief to the applicants as they will no longer be required to stand in long queues at Jammu or Srinagar waiting for their documents to be checked.More such Kendras need to be opened in other districts of the state to provide this facility to the people of these districts at their doorsteps.
Yours etc….
Ashok Sharma,
Udhampur.
