Positive outcome of biometric attendance

Introduce an innovative thing even in a small way but with all seriousness and it is bound to show positive and encouraging results. The bane of our public offices and institutions has been late coming, early leaving and unauthorized absenteeism of some employees but claiming full wages and salaries. This is not only unethical but is touching the borderline of corrupt practices. Full wages only for full work should be the motto of both the employer as well as the employees, the former ensuring it strictly as it has to pay.
Through these columns, we hailed the introduction of installing of anti proxy device of biometric attendance in Government offices late last month and expected good results. Our stand fortunately has been proved right as reports are that on account of  effective implementation of this new method, it  has started showing cogent results. Punctuality has improved and resulted in better service delivery.
If a jump from 45 percent to 80 percent attendance in offices is any indication, the credit goes to introduction of this new system. The remaining gap of 20 percent must be looked into as to its  causes and obviously authorized absence like tours, sanctioned leave, deputations etc cannot be reckoned in this bracket. Productivity, efficiency, sense of responsibility and better management of human resources development can be expected in good measure thanks to biometric attendance system.
