SRINAGAR, Oct 21: An Army porter was killed and a teenage girl and a woman were injured as Pakistani troops violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kamalkote sector of Baramulla district today.
An Army official said that Pakistani troops deployed opposite to Shanker Post in Kamalkote sector of Uri in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district resorted to unprovoked firing on the post held by 12 Dogra Regiment of the Army at around 1130 hours today.
An Army porter identified as Mohammad Abbas resident of Mariya, 18 year old Nasreena Bano daughter of Faquir Ali resident of Mariya and 40 year old Asifa Begam of Mariya in Kamalkote were injured in the Pakistani firing.
The injured were shifted to Uri Hospital for treatment and Mohammad Abbas succumbed to injuries while condition of the two other injured is stated to be out of danger.
Indian Army personnel gave befitting reply to the ceasefire violation of the Pakistani troops in Kamalkote sector and the firing between the troops of two sides continued till 1400 hours.
The Army officials said that Pakistani troops are desperate as they have failed to infiltrate militants into Kashmir due to tight vigil along the LoC. They said that the militants are desperate for infiltration ahead of winter. He said that the ceasefire violation was aimed at giving cover to the militants for infiltration.
Army’s 55 Rashtriya Rifles, 182 and 183 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police this afternoon cordoned off Monghama village in district Pulwama after reports about presence of two Hizbul Mujahideen militants hiding inside the village.
Sources said that two Hizb militants Zahoor Ahmad and Mohammad Zahid were hiding in the village when troops cordoned it off. Both of them are locals and Zahoor was with Territorial Army and early this year he fled from an Army camp along with a weapon to join militancy.
However, as the cordon of the village was laid at around 1.30 p.m residents pelted stones on the security forces, who, in return, fired teargas to disperse them and the ding dong battles continued for four hours. The operation was later called off at around 5.30 p.m.
In the meantime, a group of militants this evening barged into the house of a People’s Democratic Party worker, Mohammad Ashraf Peer at Dadsar Tral and ransacked his house. They also threatened Peer of dire consequences for his association with the PDP. They also fired in air after they came out of the house.
