Sir,
Indeciseveness on Poonch rail link on the part of railway authorities is not less than dashing all hopes and expectations to the ground. Long cherished desires of people in habiting from Jammu to Poonch will remain unfulfilled if the Central Govt. fails to honour the sentiments, needs and problems the people of these areas have. Keeping the area without rail link means denial of rail facilities to them. When Kashmir like geographically difficult terrain has been blessed with rail link, extension of rail services to these districts is comparatively easy. The Govt should therefore, press more to the centre with all justification to reconsider the proposal, now stands shelved, allegedly for involvement of exorbitant exchequer. Since rail link enhances tourism potentials, trade and business, creates employment opportunities and accelerates all round development of the area concerned, the need to have rail facilities can’t be over emphasised.
It is no exaggeration to say that rail facilities in the area covering Rajouri and Poonch will usher a new era of progress and prosperity and help in removal of poverty, illiteracy and backwardness.
Yours etc…
