Poll boycott

Sir,
Refer news item ‘Omar asks people to defy poll boycott’ DE May 13.
The poll process  in Pakistan should be an eye-opener for separatists in Kashmir who have been asking people to keep away from elections in the State.
People in Pakistan defied the diktates of Taliban who had given poll boycott call.
Despite violence, people participated in elections and installed a democratic Government. Instead of boycotting election, the separatists should jump the fray and prove their representative character.
The boycott call will serve no purpose to people as it will serve no purpose to people as it will have no takers in Jammu and Ladakh. Even in Kashmir people have participated in large numbers despite threats and intimation from militants. Panchayat polls in the recent example.
Besides, there is no alternative with the  separatists which would empower people to redress their day-to-day grievances.
There are several issues which confront people today. These include unemployment shortage of electricity and growing  population. These issues can be redressed by a duly elected Government and not by any one.
Yours etc…
