Policeman arrested for murdering wife

MENDHAR, Aug 30: Police has arrested a cop of IRP battalion for murdering his 36-year old wife in Mendhar Sub division of Poonch district.

The deceased woman, a teacher by profession, was allegedly strangulated by her husband Policeman along with his mother and the duo had placed the body at around 100 meters away from their residence. Later the police recovered the body of the woman, namely Shanaz Akhter from Keri Gulatta on August 24. While injury marks were visible on the body, Police filed a case FIR number 91 under Sections 302 and 109 of IPC at Police station Gurasi and started investigation.
Subsequently, the police worked out the blind murder case of the woman, a mother of three girls and a son.
SDPO Mendhar Z A Jaffri held a press conference here today and informed that based on the technical and other evidence, it was found that the deceased woman’s husband, Constable Mohammad Irfan Manhas, posted with IRP battalion in Batamaloo Srinagar, had reached home and in the midnight strangulated the wife while she was asleep. “While Irfan manually strangulated the woman, his mother (mother-in-law of the deceased) helped in commissioning the crime,” he added.
After the murder, the son-mother duo tried to destroy evidence and changed clothes of the deceased woman before placing the body in the dead of night at some 100 meters away from their residence. After the murder, accused Mohammad Irfan Manhas left for Srinagar in a truck in a bid to give impression that he remained on duty, the officer said.
“It was an organised crime and criminals tried to hide /remove all evidences but the sincere efforts of SHO Gursai, technical team and timely guidance and supervision of SSP Poonch and DIGP R/P range Vivek Gupta led to the solving of the blind murder case within a period of five days,” said the SDPO.
