SRINAGAR, May 5: Police in Anantnag district today unearthed a concealed underground structure at the residence of a drug offender during a cordon and search operation in Tulkhan area of Bijbehara.
A Police spokesperson said Police carried out a “narco cordon and search operation” (CASO) at a house in Tulkhan area of Bijbehara, linked to Rayees Ahmad Dar, who is already facing charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
He said the operation was part of a continuing crackdown on the narcotics network. Dar, he said, is “involved in FIR No. 50/2021 under Sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act,” in which 2,600 bottles of codeine phosphate were previously recovered.
The spokesperson added that the accused’s residential property, valued at around Rs.1.06 crore, had been attached on 15 April 2026 under provisions of the NDPS Act.
During Tuesday’s search, officers discovered what the spokesperson described as a “concealed underground hide-like structure” beneath a cemented pathway inside the premises. He said the structure “appears to have been used for concealing contraband substances.”
