Police solves 80 two-wheeler theft cases: SSP

JAMMU, May 10: With the arrest of 11 persons, police have solved 80 cases of two-wheeler theft in various parts of Jammu district.
“On March 18 we formed a special team called AVTAR (anti-vehicle theft and recovery) to keep a check on theft of motor vehicles and since then we have solved 80 such cases of two wheeler theft”, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Sunil Gupta told reporters during Vehicle Mela at Gandhi Nagar police station here today.
He said 11 vehicle lifters were also arrested from various parts of the district during the period whereas 27 habitual vehicle lifters have been identified and put under surveillance.
Gupta said the district-wise information related to motor vehicle theft has been prepared and team AVTAR was gearing up for the next task of getting data from entire Jammu zone collected at one place.
“The team AVTAR since its formation laid surprise check posts at various places across Jammu district and seized a number of vehicles and also booked violators under various sections of Motor Vehicle Act”, SSP said.
Gupta said in the process of recovery of vehicles, four drug peddlers were also arrested and booked under various sections of NDPS Act.
