Police seize LPG cylinders, registers case

SRINAGAR, June 4: Police today seized a large number of LPG cylinders and registered a case against an individual for alleged illegal hoarding and suspected black marketing of cooking gas cylinders in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
A police spokesperson said acting on specific information, police conducted a search operation at Nunner Takia in Ganderbal and recovered a large number of domestic and commercial LPG cylinders of various companies from the premises of Javid Ahmad Sofi, son of Mohammad Ramzan Sofi, a resident of Nunner Takia.
According to the spokesperson, the cylinders were being stored without any valid licence or authorization and were seized on the spot in the presence of officials from the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department.
The spokesperson said the unauthorized storage of a substantial quantity of LPG cylinders posed a serious threat to public safety and prima facie violated relevant legal provisions.
Accordingly, a case under Sections 3/7 of the Essential Commodities Act and Section 287 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at Police Station Ganderbal and further investigation has been taken up, the spokesperson added.
