SRINAGAR, Oct 8: Police in Anantnag and Handwara today conducted searches at the residences of individuals associated with the Hurriyat and Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), including those suspected of having links with these banned organizations.

In Anantnag, police said it carried out coordinated search operations at multiple locations across the district.
“The searches were conducted at the residences of individuals suspected of links with banned organisations including Hurriyat and Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) etc, in connection with FIRs registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act – UAPA,” Anantnag Police said.
During the operation, police said, various premises falling under different police station jurisdictions were searched for incriminating material related to the proscribed outfits, some of which was recovered and seized on the spot.
“The entire process was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, ensuring complete transparency and legal compliance.”
In Handwara, police said, targeted searches were carried out at the residences of individuals associated with Hurriyat and Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) within the Handwara jurisdiction.
The raids, as per police, were conducted at the residence of Gh. Hassan Khan, son of Habibullah Khan, resident of Maidan Chogol, associated with the proscribed Hurriyat, and at the residence of Abdul Ahad Lone, son of Abdul Aziz Lone, resident of Wahipora, associated with the proscribed JeI.
“These searches were conducted as part of ongoing investigations to ascertain the involvement of the individuals in activities that may threaten peace and public order.”
Police said it will continue to take decisive action against any individual or organization attempting to disturb the law and order situation in the district.
“Searches form part of the ongoing investigation to expose and dismantle the ecosystem supporting separatist and terror activities,” police said.
