RAJOURI, May 27: The police today started scrutiny of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) record after seizure after completion of initial scrutiny of JK Bank record Darhal in connection with the students’ Scholarship scam worth lakhs.
Police sources said that a team of police officials headed by DySP,  Iftikhar Talib under the supervision of SSP Rajouri, Dr Haseeb Mughal went to BGSB University and started scrutiny of the record. The team met the Vice Chancellor and some senior officials in the Varsity and also  initiated cross questioning  of some of the employees connected with the scholarship of the students.
The police said that the Bank clerk, Ajaz Malik  posted at Darhal branch of J&K Bank,  was still underground. The police parties were conducting raids to trace him. It said that from the scrutiny of the bank record seized so far, embezzlement of nearly Rs 12 lakh has come to the light. The amount may be more. Six cheques issued by the Social Welfare Department have also been seized by police. Some insiders in the Varsity in connivance with the absconding clerk  had been operating through fake accounts and the money was being transferred there.
This practice was going on for the last many years and the scholarship coming from the Social Welfare Department for the poor students was going into the pockets of the fraudsters. The police said that arrest of some University staff members in near future can not be ruled out.
