Conforming to the directive of the Supreme Court, and guided by the principle of organizational uniformity of police force, the State Government is mulling Police Reforms Act likely to be tabled in the winter session of the Legislative Assembly. The proposal envisages induction of Police Commissioner system with magisterial powers for the twin capitals, constituting of State Security Commission (SSC) and incepting of the Police Establishment Board to meet various requirements of efficient management and delivery. The right thing done by the Government is to have closely studied the functioning of revised police systems in other states and to have redrawn the format of the reformed Act now to be placed in the public domain before its final adoption. Hopefully adoption of the reformed Act will infuse renewed vigour and dedication in police force that is rendering meritorious service especially in the face of ongoing insurgency in the State.
