Police recover Rs 1.5 lakh from online fraud in Kathua

JAMMU, May 9: The District Cyber Cell of Kathua, under the leadership of SSP Kathua, has successfully recovered Rs 1.5 lakhs stolen through an online scam.
The case came to light when Chaman Lal of Patel Nagar, Kathua, lodged a complaint on April 25, 2024.
Lal reported that an impostor, posing as his nephew, deceived him into transferring the money to a fraudulent account.
The Cyber Cell team responded promptly, managing to freeze the fraudulent transaction and subsequently refunding the entire amount to Lal.
The swift action taken by the Cyber Cell Kathua highlights their dedication and skill in handling cybercrimes, ensuring that citizens are protected from such online threats.
As investigations continue, the District Police Kathua has reiterated its call for public vigilance against cyber fraud.
They have urged everyone to report any suspicious online activity immediately to the Cyber Cell Kathua, the National Cyber Crime Helpline Number 1930, or through the official portal at www.cybercrime.gov.in.
