Police Public Mela on Sept 15, Sahai discusses arrangements

Srinagar, Sept 2: Arrangements for day long Police Public Mela (Milchar), being held in Srinagar on September 15, 2013, were discussed in a senior police officers meeting at Armed Police Headquarters (APHQ) here today. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Additional Director General of Police Armed (ADGP), S.M. Sahai.
Addressing the meeting, Mr. Sahai said that Police Public Mela (Milchar) is one of the grand events organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association (JKPWWA) after intervals. He said that the Melas have assumed much importance as the public have shown large interest in these Melas both at Srinagar and Jammu for years. People from all shades of life visit the Melas and avail the opportunity of having items of their choices, from all the regions of the areas of the State under one roof. These Melas have also brought police and public together to work for peace and prosperity of the State, he added.
Mr. Sahai  informed that 23rd Police Public Mela would be held in Srinagar on September 15, 2013 at Bakshi Stadium here. The Mela will be inaugurated at 10 a.m. and will conclude at 5 p.m. He disclosed that Raffle Draw will take place at the venue at 4 p.m. in the presence of public.  He said that the transparency in raffle draws has strengthened the trust of the people upon the organizers. The resources generated through these Melas are utilized for the welfare of police martyr’s families under various welfare schemes adopted by the Police Organization which include free education to their wards.
During the meeting, discussions were held with regard to various arrangements in and around the venue. For this purpose various committees headed by senior officers were constituted and asked to start the preparations for the grand event. It was decided that the stall holders of different police establishments across the State would be geared up for their massive participation in the Mela with their products. Sufficient space would be provided to them to establish their stalls for exhibition and sale of products. He disclosed that counters for sale of raffle draw tickets would be established at different locations across the State and special counters would also be established in and around the venue on the Mela day. Commandant JKAP 9th Bn. Altaf Ahmed Khan has been nominated as Nodal Officer for the event.
Mr. Sahai disclosed that painting competition for the children, tombola  and other entertainment programmes would be part of the Mela.
Among others, the meeting was attended by IGP Traffic, Muneer Ahmed Khan, DIGs, AS Bali, SA Mujataba, Sheikh Abdul Hamid and Jadesh Kumar and other police officers.
