KISHTWAR, Feb 12: Police launched a heavy crackdown on bikers performing stunts in and around the town, riding bikes rashly and negligently and avoiding crash helmets. Police registered multiple FIRs in this regard, seized over 30 bikes and arrested a number of persons in this connection.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar Abrar Chowdhary, police received complaints during various public meetings that the youth in and around the town misuse the bikes by doing stunts on the roads, driving rashly and negligently and therefore endanger the lives of elderly persons, children and women. Moreover there were complaints that many youngsters ride bikes without driving licences and without the proper papers of the bikes with them, he added.
Acting on these complaints, police laid various nakas in the town and has arrested six persons, seized over 30 bikes and challaned a large number of motorcycles.
SSP further stated that police registered cases under FIR Number 28/18 under Section 279 and 336 RPC against Masarat Bashir, son of Bashir Ahmed of Lyne Kishtwar, FIR Number 30/18 under Section 279 and 336 RPC against Arun Singh, son of Ramesh Singh of Dool, FIR Number 31/18 under Section 279 and 336 RPC against Ghulam Mujtaba, son of Bashir Ahmed of Nagseni Kishtwar, FIR Number 32/18 under Section 279 and 336 RPC against Chander Shekhar, son of Mohan Lal of Sohol Padder and FIR Number 27/18 under Section 279 and 336 RPC against Aqib Javid, son of Javid Iqbal of Poohi Kishtwar.
The arrests and seizures were made by the SHO Police Station Kishtwar Inspector Sameer Jillani and DySP Headquarters Nihar Ranjan.
SSP Abrar Chowdhary added that the police have warned the violating bikers on many occasions through public meetings, by social media and at police check points but they do not appear to reform themselves and failed to observe the law of the land. Their lunatics like behaviour while riding bikes in the town has made the life of pedestrians, elderly people, women and children miserable, he said, adding that the bikers’ unruly behaviour is the cause of accidents in many cases.
He said that police has resolved to take the unruly bikers to task and it will do all possible actions to make them behave including the frequent registration of FIRs, seizure of the bikes, arrests of the bikers and cancellation of licences and registration.
He impressed upon the parents to advice their children and youth to behave while riding bikes because in case of rampant violations police will be constraint to register FIRs and make arrests as it has done in the last couple of days and that will ruin their career.
