NEW DELHI, Apr 11: A court here has allowed the plea of Delhi Police seeking 15 days time to conclude investigation against suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operatives Mohd Rashid and Mohd Shahid after the investigators said the efforts to nab wanted accused Abdul Subhan were still going on.
Rashid and Shahid were arrested from Haryana’s Mewat region last December in connection with a case of planning to carry out terror attacks in Delhi and adjoining areas.
Special Cell of Delhi Police moved an application before Additional Sessions Judge Daya Prakash, saying they require 15 days to complete the probe as missing links in the conspiracy would be established once Subhan, who was allegedly in touch with Pakistan-based top LeT terrorist Javed Baluchi, was arrested.
“Wanted accused Abdul Subhan is still absconding and non- bailable warrant against him has been issued by the court. With the arrest of this wanted accused, the missing links in the conspiracy are likely to be established which require that period of investigation and judicial custody of these accused (Rashid and Shahid) be extended,” the police said.
It said that names of two more suspects, Javed and Sabbir, have also surfaced during the investigation and they were also absconding.
The probe agency also claimed that Rashid and Subhan were in touch with Baluchi through mobile phone numbers and, according to reports of a central intelligence agency, Baluchi is a “known terrorist”.
“During the investigation, it was revealed that accused Rashid and wanted accused Abdul Subhan were in touch with LeT terrorist Javed Baluchi, based in Pakistan, through mobile numbers,” it said.
The court allowed the plea of the Special Cell and granted it time till April 23 to conclude its investigation. (PTI)
