Police foils VRS employees’ rally to Secretariat

JAMMU, Mar 15: Police today foiled the protest rally of the State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) Volunteer Retirement Employees Association to Civil Secretariat, pertaining to their long pending demands.
Amid slogans, VRS employees under the leadership of Dev Raj Bali, president, VRS Union assembled at Press Club and started marching towards Civil Secretariat. But were stopped by the heavy deployment of police near Dogra Chowk.
The protestors raised slogans against the Government and SRTC management for their adamant attitude towards them.
Addressing the gathering, Dev Raj Bali said that the SRTC management and the Government are not clearing their dues for which they have been struggling.
He added 126 slabs of COLA were given to in-service and latest retired employees of the SRTC from January 1, 2006 but the same was not paid to 670 VRS employees.
He further said that their due drawn bills for these have been prepared and were sent to Secretariat but due to the wrong representation of the SRTC management, have been sent back.
Bali demanded release of 126 slabs of COLA, release of pending arrears since 1999 and 6th Pay Commission from 2006.
Surinder Singh, general secretary, Balwinder Singh, senior vice president, Prem Nath, cashier, Surjit Singh, office secretary, BB Sharma and JD Singh also addressed the gathering.
