JAMMU, Apr 28: Police foiled the strong protest and attempt of the NPP activists to conduct `gherao’ of Civil Secretariat here today.
Raising loud slogans of ‘Rohingyas, Bangladeshis Quit Jammu’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’, a large number of Panthers Party workers took out a large rally in the heart of the Jammu city today which was spearheaded by Harsh Dev Singh, chairman of the party, Balwant Singh Mankotia State president and Yash Paul Kundal State president Young Panthers and other leaders.
The rally started from Press Club Jammu and after passing through Gumat Bazar, Raghunath Bazar, City Chowk, Purani Mandi, Parade marched towards Civil Secretariat in an attempt to `gherao’ it, but was restrained by a massive contingent of police near Shalamar Temple. The leaders amid scuffle with the police raised anti-government slogans and sought immediate eviction of foreign immigrants from Duggar land.
Describing the Rohingyas and Bangladeshis’ illegal settlement in Jammu as a grave threat to the cultural, historical and religious identity of Dogras, Harsh Dev said that Rohingyas who were forced to leave Myanmar because of their involvement in the criminal and terror related activities had been mysteriously allowed to enter Jammu directly all the way long from their native country under a deep rooted conspiracy.
He described the soaring population of Rohingyas as a potential threat to the demography of Jammu Pradesh who were living in the colonies encircling Jammu city by clandestinely managing to procure PRCs, Identity Cards, Ration Cards, water and electricity connections with the assistance of the people sitting at the helm of the affairs.
NPP leader pointed towards media reports mentioning Osama Bin Laden’s 2001 statement in a Karachi based newspaper claiming that Jehadi forces were being promoted from Indonesia to Algeria, from Kabul Chechnya, from Bosnia to sudan and from Myanmar to J&K and expressed his astonishment over the recent media reports whereby Hizb -ul- Mujahideen had openly announced support in favour of their settlement in Jammu.
He further made a reference to the media reports in the past regarding funding of Rohingya Liberation Organization (RLO) and Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO) by Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey. He said that all such reports were alarming and indicated the international terrorist connections of those whose settlement in Jammu was being taken casually by the present dispensation.
Balwant Singh Mankotia and Yash Paul Kundal also addressed the gathering and warned to intensify agitation in near future.
