Police foils bovine smuggling bid, rescues 16 animals

SAMBA, Dec 8: Continuing its drive against bovines smuggling, District Police Samba foiled an attempt to smuggle bovines by rescuing 16 bovines after arresting a bovine smuggler in the jurisdiction of Police Station, Vijaypur.
A police party of PS Vijaypur, while performing vehicle checking duty at naka NHW Rakh Barotian Vijaypur, signalled to stop a truck bearing Registration Number PB12N-0621 which was coming from Kathua side and moving towards Valley.
On seeing the naka party, the driver accelerated the speed of vehicle and tried to fled away from the spot. But the alert cops after successful chase, apprehended the driver along with truck few metres away from the naka point.
During checking of the vehicle, 16 bovines were found laden inside the vehicle without any permission. The accused driver identified as Sukhdev Singh S/o Niranjan Singh, R/o Sanjay Gandhi colony, Tajpur-Ludhiana, Punjab has been arrested on spot.
The cattle were rescued and shifted to safer place. The vehicle used for transporting bovines was also seized on spot.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 206/2020 U/S 188 IPC, 11 PCA Act stands registered at PS Vijaypur and investigation taken up.
