UDHAMPUR, Mar 30: Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) under Civic Action Programme distributed uniform, bags, shoes and cash as stitching charges per student to 465 children belonging to poor, far-flung, backward and below poverty line families covered under National Child Labour Project here today.
Additional SP Khalil Ahmed Poswal distributed these items to children in the presence of Ram Pal Choudhary, Project Director, Inspector Mahesh Sharma, SHO police station Udhampur, Chinmay Jyoti, Director Bhramrishi Shanti Vidhya Peeth, Sham Saroop Kalsotra, SK Gandotra and about 500 children, citizens.
A rally was also organised on the occasion which passed through the different bazaars and chowks to spread awareness among the general public regarding the menace of child labour.
Speaking on the occasion, Additional SP appealed the general public not to engage the children in labour activities and send them to the schools to avail free education and other benefits under National Child Labour Project.
He informed the public that child labour in an offence under law and appealed the public to release the children below 14 years, if any, engaged by them as domestic help in other commercial establishments, otherwise strict action would be taken against the defaulters law.
He assured the participants that such initiatives to uplift the children of downtrodden families would be repeatedly taken-up by Police under Civic Action Programme of J&K Police in collaboration with the National Child Labour Project.
