KATHUA, Mar 15: In continuation to drive launched by the district Police Kathua under the overall supervision of Mohan Lal, Superintendent of Police, Kathua against the bovine smugglers, a notorious inter state bovine smuggler namely Saif Ali @ Chunj S/o Noor Ahmed R/o Maggar Khad tehsil & district Kathua who has been booked under Public Safety Act, 1978 was arrested here yesterday.
A police spokesman said that on the basis of dossier prepared by the Kathua Police, the District Magistrate, Kathua issued detention warrant against bovine smuggler yesterday which was executed on very same day and the detenue has been lodged in Central Jail Jammu. Ali is habitual offender and indulged in illegal transportation of bovine animals / criminal activities since the year 2007 and thereafter he continuously / repeatedly involved in this menace, spokesman added.
He said although he has been charge sheeted five times, convicted thrice, under trial in two cases and the investigation of one case is going on, but he never mended himself.
Police is confident that by his detention, the peace living people of this area will definitely have a sigh of relief.
