SAMBA, Nov 28: Samba police has arrested two smugglers and seized over one kg gold ornaments from them which were being smuggled to Jammu from Punjab.
Police said on a tip off these two persons were stopped at Samba and on their frisking the gold ornaments weighing one kg and 180 grams were recovered from their possession. They had to handover these ornaments to a gold merchant in Jammu. The duo was traveling in a car bearing Registration Number BO8CZ-7997 which was on way from Punjab to Jammu.
They had fake bills of the gold ornaments. Later a team of State Tax Department reached the spot and they slapped Rs 3,23,700 as Tax on them. The GST Inspector, Samba, J P Singh said that they had tried to evade the tax and produced the fake bills to save the same. He said they can take the golden ornaments after paying the tax amount.
