JAMMU, May 10: Police here today claimed to have solved a chain snatching case within 24 hours of the crime being reported at Police Station Janipur by recovering the stolen ornament from the possession of a juvenile, who has been arrested.
A police official said that a complaint was lodged on May 9 by one Vishal Gupta, son of Arvind Gupta, and a resident of Main Stop Janipur, alleging therein that an unidentified person had snatched his gold chain and cheated him.
Acting on the complaint, he said an FIR No. 62/2026 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Police Station Janipur and further investigation was set into the motion.
Accordingly, a team of police detained the accused child in conflict with the law using technical surveillance and local intelligence, the police official said.
During sustained questioning, he said the detained juvenile confessed to his involvement in the crime and on his disclosure, the stolen gold chain was recovered from his possession.
Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is underway.
Pertinently, the investigation in the case was conducted by SI Mohammad Shabir under the supervision of senior officers.
