Police busts gang of thieves, stolen ornaments recovered

SRINAGAR, Oct 7: Mattan police today claimed to have unearthed a gang of thieves recovering stolen gold ornaments worth lakhs from their possession.
Giving details, SHO Mattan, Pankaj Sudan, said that he formed a special investigation team on the complaints of theft by the people of the area. He said an FIR No 53 was already registered with police and investigations were taken up to unearth the gang. Many people suspected were questioned and released after being proven innocent.
Finally, two boys were nabbed who during the sustained questioning confessed to have stolen electronic gadgets worth lakhs from villages of the area.
On the revelations gold ornaments and some electronic gadgets worth Rs 5 lakh  were recovered.
He said that at least 22 gold ornaments were recovered including 17 finger rings, two necklaces with pendulum, one Kadda and 2 ear rings.
Besides, one LCD costing about 80 thousand rupees and one mobile phone was also recovered from them.   They have been identified as Riyaz Ahmad of Dialgam and Abdul Qayoom of Pehroo Mattan.
