Srinagar, Nov 3: Police today booked some ‘unidentified rumor mongers’ who had spread rumors of killings of a cop and a civilian on social media to attract youths towards militancy and to disrupt peace in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district.
“Recently some unknown rumour mongers in order to attract youth towards militancy and to create disruption in normal life in the Valley had uploaded a fake and baseless news on social media about killing of one constable during an encounter at Bijbehara and death of one person namely Naseer Ahmad Dar, son of Nisar Ahmad Dar, resident of Zirpora (Anantnag) district,” a police spokesman said here.
He said the intention of rumour mongers for spreading such fake and false news is to “disrupt the peace and instigating youth to resort to stone pelting”. “A case under FIR number 207/2015 under Section 13-39 Unlawful Activities Act, 153 RPC was registered in police station Bijbehara and investigation was taken up,” he said, adding: “Efforts are on to nab the accused involved in spreading the rumours.”
A police official said on the condition of the anonymity that the rumors were spread on ‘Whatsapp’ and Facebook. He said the accused are in four to five in number but are absconding.
