Police books MC chairman

Srinagar, Aug 6: Women Councillors of Baramulla Municipal Committee (MC) today alleged that the MC chairman as well as few others harassed and abused them last night after trying to barge into their rooms.
Two women Councillors, one from BJP and another Independent told Excelsior that the MC Chairman Umar Kakroo along with BDC Boniyar Bilal Ahmad Mir, and Councillor, Ashiq Hussain Ganaie allegedly barged into their rooms and started abusing them.
“They abused, harassed us, we are living here along with our families and we were in a deep shock. They kept shouting, abusing us all,” one female Independent Councillor told Excelsior.
She said that they called the police and the security forces guarding their accommodation at the ski-resort who then, as per her, stayed with them until 2.30 am.
Later a formal complaint was registered by the female councillors in the Police Station Gulmarg.
Another lady Councillor from BJP told Excelsior that the MC chairman was pictured by someone when he was allegedly involving in an “indecent act”. She said that they thrashed those who came and started abusing them.
“The picture was circulated on social media and while that happened, he (MC chairman) along with another BDC man came and tried to vent out the anger on us; but we called the police and the FIR has been lodged,” she said.
Another account of the incident which has come to the fore that there was some scuffle between the female Councillors and someone among them called the MC Chairman to help them get the issue resolved. However, in turn, they were beaten by the Councillors.
When contacted, MC Baramulla chairman Umar Kakroo told Excelsior that the allegations levelled against him are baseless and now that the FIR has been lodged, let the law take its own course.
“These are blatant lies. These are all baseless allegations levelled against me. With regard to the fact whether I was drunk or not, I am ready for any medical investigation which can prove that. Rest let the law take its own course,” he said.
Meanwhile, FIR number 06/2020 US 354/452 and 354: assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty” and 452: House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint.” has been registered at Police Station Gulmarg and investigation set in motion.
The police officials said that a case has been registered against the chairman of BDC Boniyar, chairman MC Baramulla and a Councillor for “house-trespass and “assault” on two women Councillors with an intention to “outrage their modesty” in a hotel at Gulmarg.
