Police arrests two militants from Lal Chowk

SRINAGAR, Jan 4: Security forces today apprehended two militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) from a hotel near city Centre Lal Chowk early today.
A police officer said that two LeT militants were apprehended by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police from a hotel at Court Road here at 2.30 am today.
Police raided the hotel during the night after a specific information about their presence in the hotel.
The duo has been identified as Tanveer Ahmad Baba of the frontier district of Kupwara and Shabir Ahmad from Nawab Bazar area of Srinagar city. The two militants are being questioned about their plans and stay in a hotel in city Centre.
Police sources said that some explosives were recovered from the two arrested militants. It is not yet known whether they were planning an attack or were part of any sleeper cell of the LeT.
Earlier two months ago Srinagar police busted a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) sleeper cell in the city that was planning to carry out subversive activities in Srinagar city.
Police had received a specific input regarding the activities of the sleeper cell of LeT outfit active in Nowgam- Chanpora areas of the city. As per the police the sleeper cell was specifically tasked to carry out subversive activities in and around Srinagar. The arrested members of the sleeper cell were Mohammad Irfan Haroon resident of Tawheed Colony, Natipora and Shakeel Ahmad Bhat resident of Haja Mohalla, Natipora”, said police. Three AK-47 rifles, 14 pistols and 2 wireless sets were recovered from them.
