SAMBA, Oct 1: In a major breakthrough, district police Samba arrested two narcotic smugglers and recovered 13/14 kgs of Poppy Straw (Bhukki) and India currency worth Rs 27 lacs in the jurisdiction of Police Station Samba.
This was stated by SSP Samba , Rajesh Sharma at a press conference here today, along with Additional SP, Ajaz Zargar and other police officers.
He said a Police party of Police Station (PS) Samba led by Incharge Police Post SIDCO under close supervision of SHO PS Samba, while conducting searches of stranded trucks on Mansar Morh, Samba intercepted a truck bearing Registration No. JK03H-8780 whereas driver and helper of said truck tried to flee. The truck was found laden with a gunny bag and during checking, a total of 13-14 Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from tool box packed in a gunny bag.
During further search of the vehicle, two polythene bags containing bundles of Indian Currency worth Rs 27 lacs was also recovered, he added.
The SSP said the accused persons have been identified as Samiullah, S/O Mohd Amin (truck driver) and his associate Zahid Maqbool, S/o Mohd MaqboolWagay both residents of Lower Munda, Qazigund. They have been arrested on the spot and the Indian currency along with contraband item was seized. The vehicle used in the commission of offence was also seized.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 263/2020 U/S 8/15/22/29 NDPS Act has been registered at PS Samba and further investigation started. Both the forward and backward linkages in the supply chain of this narcotic module are being investigated, he added.
