SRINAGAR, May 14: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, police arrested eight drug peddlers across Kashmir today, seizing significant quantities of contraband substances.
A police spokesperson said that, continuing its efforts against drug abuse, police apprehended drug peddlers in Anantnag, Baramulla, Kulgam, and Srinagar. “Contraband substances were seized, and a notorious dealer was booked under the PIT-NDPS Act,” he said.
In Anantnag, the spokesperson said, two drug peddlers were arrested namely Mohammad Irfan, son of Mohammad Jehangir Khan, a resident of Ghaziabad, UP, with 6 grams of a heroin-like substance, and a female from Bawana JJ Colony, Delhi, with 3 grams of a heroin-like substance. Additionally, he added, another female drug peddler from Bangidar was arrested near Bangidar Bridge with 7 grams of heroin-like substance. “Ishfaq Ahmad Hajam, son of Gul Mohammad Hajam from Saidwara, Dooru Shahabad, was arrested with 6 grams of heroin-like substance,” he said.
In Baramulla, the spokesperson said, a police team intercepted two suspects at Hardbani Kunzer Bridge namely Mushtaq Ahmad Waza of Mamoosa Pattan, who was found with 26 grams of contraband and Rs. 4,000, and Abdul Qayoom Parra of Reram Kunzer, who had 20 grams of charas-like substance.
In Kulgam, Muneeb Ahmad Bhat, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat from Berigam Qazigund, was arrested with 302 grams of charas powder-like substance.
He further said Srinagar Police booked notorious drug peddler Sheikh Tasaduq, son of the late Mohammad Shafi from Mumkhan Mohalla Badamwari, under the PIT-NDPS Act. “Tasaduq, involved in multiple narcotics cases, was promoting drug abuse despite being out on bail. Following surveillance, he was detained and lodged in Kot Balwal Jail, Jammu,” he said.
The spokesperson said that cases under relevant laws have been registered, and investigations started.
