POK woman crosses LoC, repatriated by Army

JAMMU:
The Army today repatriated to Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir a middle-aged woman, who had inadvertently crossed over to this side of border along Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district.
“On June 21, a middle-aged woman Shabana, resident of Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir had inadvertently crossed Line of Control in Naoshera Sector in Rajouri district,” Defence spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta said.
Troops said that the woman appeared to be mentally disturbed and in a state of shock, he said adding that after establishing the fact that she had crossed the border unwittingly, the army authorities provided her with food, clothing and medical aid.
A woman medical officer was present throughout her stay to attend to her needs and provide solace, Lt Col Mehta said.
Taking a proactive stance, the army authorities took initiative to inform the Pakistan Authorities to identify the woman for subsequent handing over to them as a humanitarian and goodwill gesture, he added.
She was later returned to Pakistan Authorities from Chakanda Bag Crossing Point in Poonch today, he said.
Keeping in view the holy month of ‘Ramzan’ and the ethos of the Indian Army, she was presented with new clothes and dry fruits before repatriation. (AGENCIES)
