PoK refugees stage massive protest demonstration

JAMMU, Feb 12: Refugees from Chhamb, Deva- Batala, Bhimber, Kotli and Muzafrabad areas of Pak occupied Kashmir (PoK) today held massive protest demonstration near Press Club here today.
The displaced families residing in various tehsils of district Jammu and Samba today assembled at Press Club of Jammu near old Tawi bridge here under the banner of PoK Refugees Front 1947, 1965 & 1971. Capt (Retd) Yudhvir Singh (president) and general secretary, Rachhpal Singh Chib, were leading the protest. The refugees carrying banners and placards, were raising slogans in support of their demands. They also shouted slogans against the State and the Union Governments.
While addressing the gathering, the refugee leaders condemned the Chief Minister and top Congress leadership for changing the Minister incharge Revenue, Raman Bhalla. They said after a long time a Minister was able to actually understand the problems of the refugees from PoK, West Pakistan and Chhamb refugees of 1971. They said Mr Bhalla being associated with this community was able to project their issues properly before Ministers from Union Government. They described his shifting as deep rooted conspiracy against the displaced people/ refugees. They demanded comprehensive settlement of the issues of the refugees.
After staging protest, as the refugees including a large number of women tried to take out protest march towards Jewel Chowk and Lower Gumat, the strong contingent of police raised barricades and stopped them. The DPs resisted the police action but were not allowed to move ahead. Then they held protest against police and State Administration at the same place for about two hours and then dispersed. Refugee leaders Ch Sham Singh from Akhnoor and Krishan Chib from Jammu also addressed the gathering.
