JAMMU, Jan 17: SOS International, an organization of displaced persons from PoK staged a protest demonstration outside Raj Bhavan here today.
A large number of PoK displaced persons gathered outside Raj Bhavan to show their resentment over step motherly treatment of Government and started protest demonstration. SOS International chairman, Rajiv Chuni was leading. During the protest demonstration, a memorandum on the sad plight of PoK DPs, addressed to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, was handed over to the Governor NN Vohra.
While addressing the protesters, Mr Chuni said that the PoK DPs who have been struggling for the relief package, are given only piece meal by Modi Govt and their legitimate rights have been exploited by the Government. It is the high time for Government to provide due justice to PoK DPs.
Chuni alleged that none of the previous Governments bothered to take favorable step to end the plight of PoK DPs and with a ray of hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would bring good days to them but he also failed to bring relief for destitute community of PoK DPs. He alleged that more than 80% PoK DPs are living in very miserable condition. It is very unfortunate that no Government in the past, has taken any initiative to reduce the miseries borne by these PoK DPs.
The DPs leader further said that the Central Government must have respected the J&K State Cabinet’s resolution and it ought to have implemented the relief package passed moreover, even the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) of Government of India had recommended Rs 30 lakhs instead of State Cabinet resolution of Rs 25 lakhs. In the meantime, some of BJP Parliamentarians from Jammu said that Government is considering to enhance the package of Rs 25 lakhs recommended by previous State Government to Rs 40 lakhs and they had recommended elevation in package for PoK DPs which has proven just an avowal till date.
Others who also spoke on the occasion included JS Mangal, Lalit Kumar, Roshan Lal, Harbans Lal Sabharwal, Virender Khajuria, Gurmeet Singh Isher, Sharda Devi, Prof Narinder Sharma, Sanjeev Suri, OP Khajuria and Bishan Bakshi.
