JAMMU, June 3: Displaced persons from PoK have served ultimatum to the Government, seeking one- time settlement of the issues of the DPs.
Talking to media-persons these refugees leaders strongly projected the pending issues of the DPs. They pointed out that a general body meeting of the PoK refugees was held at Baspur Dak Bangalow today under the chairmanship of Ch Dev Raj, where the displaced persons discussed various issues and major problems of the DPs of 1947, 1965, 1971. They said that these DPs have temporarily been placed at various places in Jammu, Samba and Kathua belt.
They stressed that the newly elected BJP- led NDA Government should fulfill the demands of the refuges who are struggling for the last many decades. Several respective Governments have only befooled these people for their vote bank but they have done nothing for them.
Ch Dev Raj warned the State Government headed by Omar Abdullah that if their genuine demands including 1989 pattern relief as per Kashmiri migrants families are not met favourably, the repercussions would be adverse and the Government would be responsible for the consequences. The refuges would launch a vigorous movement. It was also decided in the meeting that Rs 50 lakh compensation as relief be given to each family. Employment package for the refugee children was also demanded on the pattern of KPs.
Prominent among those present in the meeting included Pala Singh, Saroop Singh, Kulwant Singh, Sarpanch Harnam Singh and Sarpanch Mohan Singh.
