JAMMU, Mar 21:  The refugees from Pak occupied  Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) today held strong protest against the State Govt for making procedure very tough for the refugee families for providing relief amount under Prime Minister’s package with the sole aim to scuttle the process of package for  some vested interests.
A large number of refugee families led by Capt ( Retd) Yudhvir Singh Chib  and Sakandya Devi  under the banner of PoJK DPs Front- 1947,65, 71 assembled at Exhibition Ground  near Press Club here today at around 11 am and started protest demonstration. After holding protest there for some time and addressing DPs’ families by Chib and some other leaders, they started protest march towards Civil Secretariat.
Addressing large gathering Capt Chib alleged that procedure of  preparing documents for providing relief amount out of Rs 2000 crore package as announced by Prime Minister has been made so tough by the State Govt that even hardly 25%  families will not be able to get the relief amount. He said it is not possible for any family to complete the documents under given format.
He pointed out that refugee families are moving from pillar to post for colleting documents and are fed up to meet the demands of corrupt officials.  Due to non-cooperative attitude of the officials  of Revenue & Relief  Department,  they are facing harassment and victimization. They have asked for State Subject, Legal heir certificates and Aadhar Card. Many old people do not have such documents with them. Even from one family now 5-8 families are in existence since last 60-70 years. They are still considering them as one family. Moreover, many are being asked to produce ration cards of 1965 and 1971 during camp days, which they do not have now.
Capt Chib alleged that even Govt department don’t have updated record of the DP families in their Provincial / District level Record Rooms, but they  are asking to the people to produce such old record and even original papers.    This is mockery of the system. The Govt is deliberately victimizing the refugees as they do not have their intensions to provide them relief. Officers at the helm of affairs seems to have been working on the behest of Kashmir based political parties which are deadly against the settlement and relief to the PoK and West Pak refugees.  They are also befooling the Govt of India over it.   They have deleted 5300 families which settled outside the State.
He warned the State Govt to simplify the procedure within four days or get ready to face a united and tough agitation from the refugees.
When the refugees tried to take out protest march towards Gumat and Shalamar  Road for further movement to Secretar-iat, strong contingent of police and para-military men intercepted them and foiled their protest march. After showing tough resistance to the cops, the protesters then dispersed.
