JAMMU, Oct 23: PoJK Displaced Persons Forum Rehari Kotli Colony here today paid rich tribute to the martyrs of 1947.
The programme started with Hawan and was initiated by Arun Mahajan at Master Devi Chand Municipal Park.
Paying tribute to the martyrs, Arun Chowdhary, president Arya Pratinidhi Sabha J&K and an executive member of Visthapit Sewa Samiti, J&K said the displaced persons of PoJK are witnessing 75th year of martyrdom of their dear ones by Pakistani army in the guise of Kabailis.
“Still we remember how we were uprooted from our motherland in PoJK namely-Kotli, Bimbar, Mirpur, Muzzafrabad, Rajouri, Poonch, Sadnoti, Bagh, Palindari, Deva Batala, Gilgit Baltistan and other areas,” he maintained.
Arun Khanna and Anu Bali—both JMC Councillors and Ramesh Gupta, ex-member PSC Punjab remembered the martyrs who laid down their lives for saving their motherland from the invasion of Kabailis, who looted and murdered the innocent people and outraged the modesty of the women.
Other speakers said that they also remember how the community women ended their lives by jumping into wells, rivers, consuming and torching themselves to save their honour.
In the end the chief guest Renu Bhatia, Chairman, Haryana State Women Commission paid rich tributes to the martyrs.
The programme concluded by paying tribute by all to the martyrs.
