KATHUA, Sept 13: Panic gripped Kalibari area of Kathua district today after a poisonous mid-day meal was served to the students of Government Middle School Kalibari.
As the children started feeling nausea  they were immediately rushed to District Hospital Kathua for checkup and medical treatment.
The panic gripped when a student of 8th class Uttra Devi found a lizard in her plate when she was going to eat mid-day meal cooked in the school premises. She informed her classmates students as well as teachers not to take meals as same being poisons. About 30 students have eaten the mid-day meal by that time hence panic gripped the area.
The parents of the children rushed to school and took their children to district Hospital for check up.  The Chief Education Officer along with team also rushed to Hospital to ascertain the situation.  The doctors examined all the students but did not found any poisonous substances or any other symptoms in them.  However as a precaution the medicine were given to children and parents were asked to keep the children under supervision.
The parents complain that sub standard food is being served in the school and alleged that cooks are also irresponsible.  They demanded enquiry into the mater. The school teachers and staff termed this a rumor.
The CEO Kathua Balbir Singh said that enquiry will be initiated into the matter.  If anyone found guilty would be punished under law.
However pending inquiry 2 cooks preparing the mid day meal for children were terminated by CEO who issued on spot orders in this regard.
The CEO Kathua has also sought an explanation from the School staff including Headmaster after DC Kathua Ramesh Kumar issued directives to the CEO to order an inquiry into the matter.
