JAMMU, Sept 22: The Hindus of Kashmir are united in their demand for the preservation and protection of the temples and shrines in the Valley and are resolved to get the Shrine Bill enacted.
This was stated by the speakers at the preparatory meeting of the Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust held here today. Those who spoke at the meeting, including Dr A N Pandita, Dr R L Bhat, M K Jalali, M K Raina, Vijay Bhat, R L Goja, P N Pandita, R K Dullo, M M Thaplo, J K Bhat, K K Pandit, P L Raina, B L Bhat, Shiban Khaibri, B L Saraf, Pradeep Koul Khodbali, P N Goja, S K Saraf, M L Ganjo, A K Raina, H L Bhat, S L Koul, C L Pandita, S L Bhat, Shadi Lal Koul, and Kashmiri Lal. They were unanimous that the struggle for the Shrine Bill shall continue till the bill becomes law.
They expressed their disappointment with the political parties like National Conference, Congress and BJP who deceived the community by first promising full support on this concensus demand of the community but did not keep their promises. The speakers urged to community to participate fully and consciously in the coming elections to the State Legislature as a Constitutional extension of the struggle for the Shrine Bill. They also called upon the various political parties to make their stand clear on this consensus demand of the Hindus of Kashmir to enact the legislation for an elected Shrine Board for the protection and preservation of all the temples and shrines in the Valley.
The meeting observed a two minute silence in memory of the people who had died in the recent floods in the State. The Trust demanded that the damage to the shrine and temples be taken due note of. The compensation for relief /reconstruction should be paid to proper assignees and that shrines be protected against ulterior designs. They also demanded that the tentative list of over thousand shrines prepared under the auspices of the Trust should be brought out at the earliest to prevent any desecration of the sacred sites affected by the floods. The spokesperson of the Trust made it clear that it is inclusive and welcomes all opinions and shades among the community to work together in the struggle.
