SAMBA, July 10:  Former Minister and MLA, Vijaypur, Chander Parkash Ganga today said that availability of free LPG connections among the poor women under Ujjawala has brought a big social transformation in the lives of women of rural areas making them healthier and happier.
The MLA was addressing a public gathering after distributing 55 LPG connections among the below poverty line households under Ujjwala at Rahya village at a function organized by Shaheed Girdhari Indane Gas Agencies.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA said that provision of free gas connection under PMUY has made the women beneficiaries healthier and happier as they have now spare time to spend for themselves. This has saved the women from the hazards of conventional smoke chullahs and informed that this scheme also ensures an insurance of Rs. 6 lakh in case of any mishap caused due to this gas cylinder.
The MLA also informed the people that this scheme would further be extended to bring the left out families under its ambit. He made a fervent appeal to those, who can afford these gas connections, to surrender their subsidies.
Ganga, while emphasizing an active campaign needed to be launched for the scheme, said that awareness regarding the scheme is key ingredient in achieving the goal of providing 5 crore LPG connections to women from BPL families by 2019 as promised by the Prime Minister. The scheme, launched in 2016, is “guided by a strong commitment to improve the quality of life of poor women’, he asserted.
The MLA, while elaborating on reformative measures initiated by Modi Government, extolled that under the stewardship of the P M, Narendra Modi India is fast marching towards new dimensions of progress and prosperity. The PM is deeply concerned about the interests of poor and neglected segments of the nation and has launched numerous policies and programs to facilitate these people with enhanced basic services so that they could live a dignified life.
Tesildar Vijaypur Raman Chalotra, BDO Vikram Sharma, Executive Engineer PDD, Narotam Kumar besides locals Chanchal Singh, Binder Singh, Labu, Radhey, Shivdev Singh, Karan Singh, Jeevan Singh and Druv Singh were present on the occasion.
