JAMMU, May 10: Former Union Minister and president Pradesh Congress Committee, Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz has said that Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme for the students from J&K studying outside is not being implemented by the HRD Ministry.
In a letter written to the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Prof Soz said that Government of India has devised a scheme to provide scholarships to the students of Jammu and Kashmir to undertake studies outside the State. It was titled as PM’s Special Scholarship Scheme. The scheme provided that a particular income group of boys and girls, verified properly would be selected for admission at various Universities and Colleges outside J&K . But till now scholarships have not been released by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (HRD). The students who have cleared their first and even the second semesters, have not received the scholarship.
It is surprising to note that HRD did not put the device for verification in shape within a required time frame. The students should not be discouraged so as to get hurt and return home leaving their studies due to lack of financial support. Prof Soz sought the intervention of Prime Minister in this regard.
