NEW DELHI : All officers and staff of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) will contribute one day’s salary to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the flood-affected people of Jammu and Kashmir.
This is a gesture of solidarity with the flood-affected people of Jammu and Kashmir, a spokesman for the PMO said. The Prime Minister had last chaired a high-level emergency meeting to review relief operations in the state and was briefed on the status of operations, especially in Srinagar town and the Kashmir valley. He said in view of the huge magnitude of the calamity, the Centre needed to provide full support to the state administration to comprehensively ramp-up rescue and relief operations.
He emphasised that immediate attention be given to providing basic necessities like food and water to people severely affected by the calamity.
He said top priority should be given to providing essential commodities to affected people in Srinagar town and directed the Home Ministry to immediately depute senior officers from Delhi and other states to coordinate the relief operations with local administration in Srinagar.
