MENDHAR, May 6: Former MLA and senior National Conference leader, Javed Rana has alleged that PMGSY has proved total failure in Rajouri and Poonch districts.
While addressing public gathering at Phamra Nar, in Gursai area of Mendhar today, Rana alleged that in the entire Pir Panchal region, the Centrally sponsored Prime Minister Grameen Sarak Yojana (PMGSY) has proved total failure. He appealed to the Governor, Satya Pal Malik to intervene into the matter as the Scheme has not been effectively and efficiently implemented in the State.
“Mendhar tehsil of district Poonch represents a dismal picture in context to PMGSY Scheme,” Rana said.
“Since its inception on December 25, 2000 by the then Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the scheme has been unsuccessful to achieve its goals as included in the manifesto,” Rana said.
NC leader further emphasized that “as far as Mendhar tehsil is concerned, the Scheme has totally failed in addressing key issues like providing connectivity among far flung villages, reducing poverty and strengthening livelihood of inhabitants particularly Scheduled Tribes and other backward communities”.
He suggested that Govt should include some Schemes at State level which complement PMGSY Scheme and quoted an example of “Mukhya Mantri Gram Sadak Yogna (MMGSY) that has shown better results in other states”.
Rana lambasted and quoted ironically about statements released by official sources “in Jammu & Kashmir only 601 kms road has been constructed in comparison to 2800 kms as targeted under the flagship of PMGSY Scheme of which 20% of roads still need overhauling.”
Highlighting the importance of good road connectivity, Rana pointed that “progress and prosperity of any civilization is determined primarily by better maintained roads and viewed from this perspective the inhabitants of Mendhar have been hoodwinked and eye-washed by the vested interests of the present Government”.
“Being very close to LoC, Mendhar tehsil has a sensitive strategic location, and due to its tough topography inhabitants are unable to move to safe places and the bad conditions of roads has further escalated their problem”, Rana said.
