PM to witness Mars Orbit Insertion on Sept 24

BANGALORE, Sept 20:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will   witness the insertion of Mars Orbiter into the Martian orbit by scientists at Indian Space Research Organisation  (ISRO) here on September 24.
Mr Modi will arrive here on September 23 evening on his maiden visit to Karnataka after becoming Prime Minister. After overnight stay in the Raj Bhavan, he will visit  ISRO the next morning and witness the most awaited moment  in the country’s achievements in space science.     Meanwhile, ISRO Chairman K Radhakrishna extended an invitation to Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala  to witness the Mars Orbit Insertion (MOI) on September 24.     Mr Radhakrishna, who went to Raj Bhavan yesterday,  extended the invitation to Mr Vala.
The ISRO team was all geared up for the MOI and have  completed Time-Tagged Commands to execute MOI uploaded and uploading of commands for fourth Trajectory correction  manoeuvre and test firing of Main Liquid Engine is in  progress and it is scheduled by done on September 22.    The Mars Orbiter was launched on November 5-2013 from Sriharikota through spacecraft PSLV-C25 in its 25th flight.    The objectives of the first Indian mission to Mars is to develop the technologies required for design, planning, management and operations of an interplanetary mission.    The objectives of the mission includes Design and  realization of a Mars orbiter with the capability to survive  and perform Earth bound manoeuvres, cruise phase of 300 days, Mars orbit insertion, capture, and on-orbit phase around  Mars, deep space communication,navigation, mission planning  and management, incorporate autonomous features to
handle contingency situations.
The scientific objective includes exploration of Mars surface features, morphology, mineralogy and Martian atmosphere by indigenous scientific instruments.(UNI)
