PM offers assistance to avalanche-hit Afghanistan

NEW DELHI :  Prime Minister Narendra Modi has  written to Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, offering him all assistance from India to overcome the challenge posed by avalanches in several parts of the war-torn country.    The Prime Minister has asked the Indian Ambassador to Kabul  to get in touch with Afghan authorities and inquire about the required assistance.
“I was deeply saddened at the massive loss of lives in avalanches in different parts of Afghanistan,” Mr Modi said in a press statement today.
“This tragedy touches us even more because of the special bonds of affection and friendship between the people of India and Afghanistan,” he said.
“I extend the heartfelt condolences of the people of India to you, the bereaved families and communities and the people of Afghanistan. Please be assured that they are with us in our thoughts and prayers,” the PM said.
“I have great confidence in your leadership and the ability of the Afghan people to respond to this disaster. We stand ready to help in any way you desire with rescue and relief and to help people rebuild their lives,” he said.
