PM Modi hails cabinet nod for scheme for replacement of old trucks, buses in Delhi-NCR

NEW DELHI, Jun 3 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday hailed the Union Cabinet’s approval of a scheme for replacement of old trucks and buses in Delhi-NCR area and said the move will reduce pollution in the region and promote cleaner mobility.

The scheme, aimed at reducing air pollution in Delhi-NCR and promoting cleaner mobility, will incentivise owners of trucks and buses registered in the region that comply with BS-IV or earlier emission norms to replace them with BS-VI or stricter emission-compliant vehicles or electric vehicles (EVs).

“The Union Cabinet has approved a scheme that will work towards reducing pollution in the Delhi-NCR region and promote cleaner mobility. The scheme will improve air quality, support sustainable transport and benefit vehicle owners,” Modi said in a post on ‘X’.

Appreciating the cabinet’s approval for a one-time support mechanism to ensure greater stability in ATF prices for Indian airlines, he said it will help maintain affordable air connectivity, support airline operations and reduce the burden on passengers.

“It will also strengthen connectivity to Tier-II and Tier-III cities, support tourism and employment,” he said.

The prime minister also hailed the cabinet’s approval for the construction of a new coastal highway from Rameshwar to Paradeep in Odisha and said it will improve connectivity across Khordha, Puri, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur districts while significantly reducing travel time.

“This modern project will strengthen logistics, support tourism and economic activity and provide safer and seamless connectivity for passengers as well as freight traffic. At the same time, coastal development will be enhanced,” he said.

On the cabinet’s approval of widening of key national highway stretches in Telangana connecting Armoor, Jagtial, Mancherial and Karimnagar, Modi said it will be a boost to the infrastructure in the state.

“The Cabinet has approved the widening of key National Highway stretches in Telangana connecting Armoor, Jagtial, Mancherial and Karimnagar. It will improve connectivity, reduce travel time, ease congestion and boost economic activities,” he said. (PTI)
