BANGKOK, Nov 4:Hours before the crucial Leaders’ Meet on Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe held bilateral meeting here on Monday.
The two leaders discussed ways to boost relations.
External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar accompanied him among others at the talks.
“Greater momentum to cooperation with Japan. Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shinzo Abe
met in Bangkok. Their talks were extensive and productive,” said a tweet from PMO.
Mr Modi will steer India’s negotiations at the Meet on Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.
“On the occasion of the ASEAN Related Summits in Bangkok, PM Abe is holding a number of bilateral meetings with regional leaders including Thailand, China, and India,” tweeted Tomoaki Ishigaki, a senior official in Japanese Prime Minister’s Office.
Mr Modi will also have bilateral meetings with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and his counterpart from Vietnam Nguyen Xuan Phuc later in the day.
On the last day of his stay here, Prime Minister will also attend the 14th East Asia Summit where
matters related to Sustainable Development, terrorism, South China Sea, North Korea and Rohingya refugees are likely to figure.
