JAMMU:Prime Minister Narendra Modi today arrived here amid tight security arrangements to attend a private function organised on the occasion of birth centenary of late Congress leader Girdhari Lal Dogra. The function is being organised by the Girdhari Lal Dogra Memorial Trust at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium at University of Jammu.
On his arrival, Mr Modi inaugurated the exhibition based on the life history of Dogra before participating in the main function.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is son-in-law of Girdhari Lal Dogra. Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Congress MPs Karan Singh and Ghulam Nabi Azad also attended the function.
Tight security arrangements, meanwhile, were made during Prime Minister’s Jammu visit. The venue was put under siege while troops including state police and para-military forces were deployed around the venue.
Traffic on the roads leading towards the venue have been closed in view of security while the commercial and private vehicles are asked to follow the route map issued in the advisory. The people of Jammu, particularly the Coordination Committee on AIIMS, have high hopes from the Prime Minister’s visit, hoping to hear announcement on the prestigious institution for the region for which agitations are already going on.
