PLS stages Punjabi play ‘Jadugar’

JAMMU, Aug 5: Punjabi Lekhak Sabha (PLS) Jammu staged a Punjabi play ‘Jadugar’ at Abhinav Theatre, here today.
Written by Dr Baljeet Singh Raina and directed by Hardeep Singh Deep, the play deals with the issue of domestic violence. The story revolves around the character of a well known writer who is very liberal in his actions and is broadminded but doubts the actions of his stage actor wife.
In return to her niceties, he causes domestic violence to her. It seems here that it’s very difficult to refine erring educated person.
Earlier on the occasion, Punjabi Lekhak Sabha (PLS) Jammu, honoured Dr Surinder Singh Sudan, president, Indian Doctors for Peace and Development and Jang S Verman, Senior Artist, Columnist on Art & Culture, Punjabi Writer and Editor, for their contribution in their respective fields.
Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, additional secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, was the chief guest on this occasion. Dr Soodan and Sh Verman were presented Shawl and mementoes (citations) on the occasion. The citations were read out prior to their presentation to the concerned felicitated personalities. A large number of intellectuals, writers, artists, theatre and film personalities were witness to the event.
In his welcome address, Dr Monojit Singh, president of Punjabi Lekhak Sabha, Jammu highlighted the activities of the Sabha and its future plans. He said that Dr Soodan has worked as Director Principal, ASCOMS, Jammu, Prof & Opthalmology, GMC Jammu and presently he is president of Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD).
Speaking about Jang S Verman, Dr Monojit said, “Verman has served as a messenger of peace through his art and writings. He has participated and has been instrumental in promoting art at national and international level. He is editor of a Punjabi magazine and contributing one page on art & culture in an English Daily of Jammu”.
