Sir,
I want to highlight the shortcomings in the TW 3 method being adopted by BCCI for the under 16 age group players for Vijay Merchant trophy matches. It has been claimed that this method gives error of 6 months on either side and is most credible method to determine the age of player. However, in the case of my son Rakesh Kumar in whose case TW3 test conducted in November 2015 in a BCCI approved hospital in Srinagar, has shown huge variations ranging from 2-3 years as compared to the players in the same age group.
The TW-3 method used by BCCI has been introduced with the intention to prevent age fudging by over aged players, which is a welcome step as like should be compared with like and ineligible players with manipulated certificates should not be allowed to compete a level not meant for them. However, this method is causing disadvantage to the players who are genuinely eligible on the basis of their date of birth certificates but the TW-3 method shows higher age than their actual age may be because of their excessive physical growth.
In view of glaring mismatch of age determination by the TW-3 method in the same age group, BCCI may take a call to consider genuineess of date of birth certificates issued on the basis of credible evidence like nursing home certificate/hospital record supported by registration in Municipal Corporation record in shortest possible time.
BCCI is requested to take up this issue on urgent basis as it is only after BCCI takes a fresh view in the matter that players like my son shall be able to take part in the selection trials which are currently underway and a precious year of a player can be saved apart from saving him from demoralization.
Yours etc…
