JAMMU, Apr 14: On the commencement of the 30th Kashmiri Pandit Nirvasan Samvat, Panun Kashmir (PK) held a function today to commemorate the event. The programme was attended by members of P K and activists from across various sections of the society.
Virender Raina president, PK presided over the function. The welcome address was read by Upinder Koul, general secretary and the vote of thanks was presented by Kamal Bagati general secretary (Org.)
On the occasion,30 earthen lamps were lit signifying 30th year of KP Nirvasan Samvat thereby sending a big message to the community that the memories of KP exodus are deeply engraved in stone. The programme among others was attended by Ashwani Chrungoo, spokesman Kashmir Affairs BJP, Prof.MLRaina advisor, PK, Moheini Raina P.N.Pandita, Kalhan Kachroo, secretary youth, Vijay Saproo,Vimla Chrungoo,Sneh Ganhar, Santosha Sharma, Ashok Chrungoo, Pramod Ji and Sameer Bhat convenor PK Youth
Virender Raina while speaking on the occasion said that it was in the year 2000 that P K adopted a resolution on “Kashmiri Pandit Nirvasan Samvat” which found great resonance with the KP community. The resolution among other things emphasised that due to the mishandling of the Kashmir situation by the powers that be, the current exile of the Pandits may not terminate in the very near future.
It is accordingly apprehended that this exile of the community may, as the past ones, also, remain confined within the covers of the history books. Thus, it would be appropriate that the ethnic cleansing and exile of the Pandits from the Valley be recorded in such a manner that it serves as a living reminder to the community.
It should also create a burning urge among all generations to strive hard to regain the lost homeland. “We, on this occasion make an earnest and humble appeal to all the community organs to make use of the ‘Kashmiri Pandit Nirvasan Samvat’ for all social, political, cultural and other purposes and contribute towards a positive and purposeful life in exile”.
Kamal Bagati general secretary said that the programme as has been conducted today sends a clear message to the society about its aims and objectives.
Chief guest Ashwani Chrungoo said on the occasion that a positive change is expected to take place in the country. There is an overwhelming support for this positive change. “We make an earnest appeal to the people to extend their full support to the Udhampur Parliamentary constituency candidate, Dr.Jitendra Singh and make him successful. He added that we have to strengthen the nationalist forces in the State and also be an active player at the national level.
