JAMMU, Nov 21: Panun Kashmir (PK) has appealed the United Nations (UN) and its human rights council (UNHCR) to take a correct position regarding the human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir State and urged it to work with the Government of India and create conditions so that the perpetrators of crimes against Kashmiri Hindus supported by Pakistan wind up their terror infrastructure forthwith.
The appeal was made by the PK in a memorandum the copies of which were released by its president Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo at a press conference along with other office bearers here, today.
The memorandum said It has been observed since long that you as well as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the UN Human Rights Council have been fed with a one sided story of the Kashmir situation, therefore, PK feels it to put the correct picture before the world body. In this context, PK also apprised the UN about the statements and observations of the credible Human Rights bodies regarding the Human Rights violations of the Kashmiri Pandit minority community in Kashmir:
Chrungoo said that his organisation has already submitted one resolution to UN Secretary General on September 27 this year and today they are resubmitting the same to world body on behalf of indigenous people of Kashmir in context of the ongoing United Nations Special week celebrations.
Chrungoo said through memorandum we have brought in the notice of world body the plight of exiled Pandits , “attack on religious minorities’’ and “human rights violations’’ in their native place who continue to live as refugees in their own country for the last 29 years.
He said the theocratic and extremist goals of the fundamentalist and terrorist organisations of the Kashmir Valley shunted seven hundred thousand of KPs into exile.
It further said that the male members of the community were killed, woman raped and brutally murdered , hundreds of their places of worship were destroyed where thousands of their houses were razed to ground by these forces which even continues till date.
It pleaded that a Special session on the plight of Kashmiri Pandits be organized at UNHRC level so that our representatives create awareness about our issues at an appropriate level.
The PK demanded that an appointment be granted to KPs to put their case before UN so that the decision about the special session in the UNHRC is appropriately discussed and taken at an urgent date.
It said the National Human Rights Commission (of India) adjudged that “the Commission is constrained to observe that acts akin to genocide have occurred in respect of the Kashmiri Pandits and recommended that the crimes committed against them are, by any yardstick, deserving of the strongest condemnation’’.
Virender Raina, Chairman, Political Affairs Committee-PK, Prof. K.L.Bhatia, Member, Human Rights Committee, Upinder Kaul, General Secretary and B.L.Garyali, senior member were also present in the press conference.
